For Families: Next Steps

United Family Center will close on Friday, November 20, 2026. We know this news may be difficult, and we want to help you and your family take the next steps with confidence. This page explains what to do now, what to expect, and where to find help.

What to do now

  1. Find a new provider as soon as possible. Availability changes quickly, and new-patient appointments can take several weeks. Use the provider lists on our Resources page, call the member services number on your insurance card and ask for care coordination, or ask your primary care provider for a referral.

  2. Plan for medication. If you or your child take medication prescribed by our office, you will receive a call and/or a letter from your provider. Do not stop any medication on your own. Schedule an appointment with a new prescriber or your primary care provider now.

  3. Have your records sent to your new provider. Once you choose a provider, complete the request form on our Records page and sign the authorization section so your new provider can continue your care without starting over.

  4. Keep copies of important documents. If your child has an evaluation, diagnosis, or recommendations used for school or other services, request a copy for your own files.

  5. Save crisis numbers. Call or text 988 at any time, or call 911 in an emergency.

For parents and caregivers

Changes in care can be hard for children, especially children who find change difficult. A few things that can help:

  • Tell your child simply and honestly that their provider’s office is closing, and that it is not because of anything they did.

  • Reassure them that you are finding them a new person to help.

  • If possible, let them say goodbye at a final appointment.

  • Keep daily routines as steady as you can during the transition.

  • Take care of yourself as well. Support for parents and caregivers is listed on our Resources page.

Autism evaluation and ABA

To receive Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) through Apple Health, a child needs a diagnosis and an order from an approved Center of Excellence (COE) provider. If your child receives ABA or is waiting for an autism evaluation, contact a new COE provider as soon as possible, since wait times can be long. A list of Centers of Excellence serving our region, and each Apple Health plan’s ABA phone line, are on our Resources page.

School plans (IEP and 504)

If your child’s school uses an evaluation or letter from our office, request a copy of your child’s records on our Records page. Evaluations and recommendations in the record can be shared with your child’s school, therapists, or a new provider. Your child’s new provider can update school documents going forward.

Teens and privacy

In Washington, teens ages 13 to 17 can consent to their own mental health and substance use treatment, and they control who can see the records of that treatment. If you have questions about your teen’s records, please call our office.

Frequently asked questions

Why is United Family Center closing?

Like many small behavioral health clinics serving our community, we are no longer able to sustain the cost of providing care. This decision was made after careful consideration and was not made lightly.

Is this closure related to me or my child?

No. This decision is in no way related to any client or family.

Will appointments continue until November 20?

Services continue through Friday, November 20, 2026. Some appointments before that date may be changed or canceled. If yours is affected, our office will let you know.

Should I wait for someone to contact me before finding a new provider?

No. Please begin contacting providers now. Starting early gives you the best chance of an appointment without a gap in care.

How do I find a new provider?

Use the provider lists on our Resources page. Providers marked “Taking new clients” told our staff they were accepting new clients on the date shown, but availability can change, so call to confirm. You can also call your health plan and ask for care coordination, or ask your primary care provider for a referral.

What happens to my child’s medication?

You will receive a call and/or a letter from your provider. Do not stop any medication on your own, and make an appointment with a new prescriber or your primary care provider as soon as possible.

My child receives ABA. What do I need to do?

Contact a Center of Excellence provider from our Resources page, or call your Apple Health plan’s ABA line, as soon as possible so your child’s order can be renewed without a gap.

Will Liz Vossenkemper continue seeing patients somewhere else?

Liz has shared a personal letter with the families in her care. She will not be continuing this clinical work elsewhere.

Can you send our records to our new provider?

Yes. Complete the request form on our Records page and sign the authorization section with your new provider’s name and contact information.

How long will records be kept? Will they stay private?

Records are kept securely and confidentially for at least six years after the last date of service. Records for children are kept for at least six years or until the child’s 21st birthday, whichever is later. They are released only as allowed by state and federal law.

How long does a records request take, and is there a cost?

We respond within 15 working days. Copies for your own use are free.

Will I still receive a bill?

You may receive statements for services provided before closure. For billing questions, call 509.402.9090.

Who do I contact after November 20?

Our phone line, email, fax, and website will remain available for records requests.
